Who can apply to be a Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)?

As a foreigner, you may be eligible to apply for permanent residence if you are a/an:

• Spouse of a Singapore citizen (SC) or Singapore permanent resident (PR)
• Unmarried child aged below 21 born within the context of a legal marriage to, or have been legally adopted by, a SC or PR
• Aged parent of a SC
• Holder of an Employment Pass or S Pass
• Student studying in Singapore
• Foreign investor in Singapore.

There are many documents required.

A permanent residence status is usually granted for a period of 5 years and subject to renewal criteria.

You can renew PR and apply for REP online within three months of its expiry date. You are not required to submit any documents, unless requested by ICA, when you apply for REP online using e-Service.

If I have been a Singapore PR for a few years, can I apply for Singapore Citizenship?

Yes you may if you:

1. Have been a Singapore PR for at least two years and are aged 21 and above (you can apply together with your spouse and any unmarried children aged below 21 born to you within the context of a legal marriage or legally adopted by you).

2. Have been a PR for at least two years and have been married to a Singapore citizen for at least two years.

3. Are an unmarried child aged below 21 born within the context of a legal marriage to, or have been legally adopted by, an Singapore Citizen.

4. Are a PR studying in Singapore; and have been residing in Singapore for more than 3 years (of which, at least one year as a PR); and have passed at least one national exam (i.e. PSLE, GCE ‘N’/‘O’/‘A’ levels), or are in the Integrated Programme (IP).

5. Are a PR and an Aged Parent of a Singapore Citizen

Other ways to become a Singapore PR - Global Investor Program

The Global Investor Program (GIP) is administered by Contact Singapore, a division of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) that advises entrepreneurs and business owners who are interested in relocating to and investing in Singapore. 

You are eligible to apply if you meet the following qualifying criteria: 

1) Established Business Owners

2) Next Generation Business Owners

3) Founders of Fast Growth Companies

4) Family Office Principals

The qualified individual is to invest in the following options:

Option A:   Invest S$2.5 million in a new business entity or in the expansion of an existing business operation. 

Option B:  Invest S$2.5 million in a GIP fund3 that invests in Singapore-based companies.

Option C:    Invest S$2.5 million in a new or existing Singapore-based single family office having Assets-Under-Management (AUM*) of at least S$200 million.
